Presentation of the First GPFLR Report

Jul. 18, 2018 - Jul. 18, 2018

The Chair of the Global Partnership on Forest and Landscape Restoration (GPFLR) will present the first Global State of FLR Report. The purpose of this document is to provide an accessible, informative message about the Restoration Movement to as broad an audience as possible. Key messages will include the powerful potential of restoration, the many benefits that can be realized, and the “do-able” nature of restoration at many scales and in many different circumstances.

The secondary purposes of the document are to:

  • Celebrate achievement of the 150 million-hectare milestone of pledges against the Bonn Challenge;
  • Mark – in 2018 – the 15th anniversary of the creation of the GPFLR;
  • Create a GPFLR & GRC branded product that draws input from all partners;
  • Sets momentum to follow-up with second report 12 to 18 months after the first report to mark the 2020 goal;
  • Take stock of what has been achieved over the years and the priority gaps and challenges that remain;
  • Challenge and recommit the partnership and its goals as we move from a period focused on pledges to one focused on implementation: what are our specific goals and how do we achieve them?
  • Acknowledge the valuable work that is being done;
  • Create key messages and describe strategic goals that can be shared with and used by GPFLR partners, the Global Restoration Council and others to move forward with the global FLR movement.
